Send installation parameters

Metal-Gum rubber elbows and bends change the direction of pipelines carrying abrasive media. Selection does not end with diameter and angle. The pipeline geometry, type and intensity of abrasion, lining thickness and material, termination method and installation conditions must also be specified.

Rubber elbows and bends — what does the product page confirm?

Metal-Gum’s current product page describes rubber elbows and bends as one family of components for installations carrying slurries, aggregates, sediments and other abrasive media. A thick rubber lining protects the component against wear while reducing flow noise, vibration and particle impact.

The manufacturer also offers geometry adapted to restricted space and standard or custom execution based on a drawing. The product name alone is therefore not a complete specification. The enquiry must describe both the pipeline route and the medium.

Geometry, lining and termination — three separate decisions

Main areas for selecting a rubber elbow or bend
Area What must be determined What to confirm in the quotation
Pipeline geometry Diameter, angle, radius, installation dimensions and the arrangement of adjacent sections. Whether a standard execution is sufficient or a product made to a drawing is required.
Medium and abrasion Medium type, presence and characteristics of solid particles and operating intensity. Lining material and thickness suitable for the operating conditions.
Termination Connection method and required connection dimensions. Flanged execution or a smooth end for clamping.
Construction Expected mechanical loads and installation conditions. Textile or steel reinforcement type and execution details.

These decisions are related, but they cannot be replaced by one trade description. Two components with the same diameter and angle may require a different radius, lining or termination.

Published Metal-Gum execution range

The current product page lists the following range for Metal-Gum rubber elbows and bends:

  • diameters from DN50 to DN800;
  • 15°, 30°, 45° and 90° angles, plus intermediate angles;
  • standard or custom bend radius;
  • NR, SBR, NR/SBR or abrasion-resistant compound linings;
  • lining thickness from 6 to 25 mm, selected according to abrasion;
  • flanged terminations or smooth ends for clamping;
  • textile or steel reinforcement;
  • standard or custom execution based on a drawing.

This range applies to the specific Metal-Gum product family. The execution-selection table on the manufacturer’s website is indicative. The final angle, lining and termination are confirmed by the technical team from the medium data and pipeline drawing.

Rubber elbows without flanges — what does the current range mean?

On the current product page, the variant without flanged connections is described as a smooth end for clamping. This means that the connection method must be specified independently of the component angle and diameter. Do not order a “flangeless” variant without providing the termination dimensions and installation method.

A smooth end for clamping is not automatically interchangeable with a flanged execution. The enquiry should include information about the existing pipeline, available installation space and required connection method.

Rubber elbow or bend — what does the name alone not determine?

The current Metal-Gum website combines rubber elbows and bends on one product page and does not define a separate naming boundary between them. Do not assume that the name determines a specific radius, installation length or angle. These values must be included in the enquiry or confirmed on a drawing.

Do not assume that every rubber component that changes pipeline direction can replace an expansion joint. The elbows-and-bends page confirms directional change and abrasion protection but does not publish the ability to absorb installation movement. If an installation requires movement absorption, the function of each component must be assessed separately.

Data for a rubber elbow or bend enquiry

  1. Provide the pipeline diameter and required change-of-direction angle.
  2. Include a pipeline drawing with the radius and installation dimensions.
  3. Describe the medium, including its type and the presence of solid particles.
  4. Provide the pressure, temperature and operating characteristics of the installation.
  5. Specify the expected termination: flanged or smooth for clamping.
  6. Include the dimensions of existing connections and installation requirements.
  7. Describe wear intensity and the location where the previous component was abraded.
  8. State whether a standard execution or a component made to a drawing is required.

Common selection mistakes

  • ordering by diameter and angle alone;
  • treating the term “elbow” or “bend” as a complete geometry description;
  • omitting the type and intensity of medium abrasion;
  • transferring the lining material or thickness from another installation;
  • failing to distinguish a flanged termination from a smooth end for clamping;
  • treating the indicative table as the final selection;
  • assuming a movement-compensation function without confirmation for the specific product.

Frequently asked questions

Does Metal-Gum offer rubber elbows without flanges?

Yes. The current product page lists smooth ends for clamping as an alternative to flanged terminations. The required dimensions and installation method must be provided in the enquiry because the two executions are not automatically interchangeable.

Which rubber elbow and bend angles are available?

The product page lists 15°, 30°, 45° and 90° angles, plus intermediate angles. Metal-Gum also declares custom executions based on a drawing. The final geometry is confirmed by the technical team after analysing the pipeline route.

Are DN and angle sufficient for selection?

No. The radius, installation dimensions, medium, abrasion intensity, operating conditions, lining and termination method must also be specified. The table on the product page is indicative and does not replace confirmation of the execution.

Prepare a pipeline drawing and medium data

Check the confirmed execution range on the Rubber elbows and bends product page.

If a valve connection seal also needs to be selected, read the guide to rubber seals in industrial valves.

Then send the Metal-Gum technical team the pipeline drawing and information about the medium, operating conditions, expected lining and termination method. This allows the geometry and execution of the component to be confirmed.
