Technical guide

Reinforced hoses for transporting water, wastewater, slurries, suspensions and other industrial media. We manufacture hoses in various diameters, lengths and end configurations, selecting the design for the installation’s operating conditions.

A reinforced hose is used wherever a flexible connection between an installation or equipment is needed and, at the same time, the hose must withstand operation under pressure or vacuum. Reinforcement strengthens the hose structure and helps it retain its cross-section during operation.

Reinforced hoses for different operating conditions

Depending on its construction, a hose may be intended to operate:

  • on suction – when vacuum is present in the hose,
  • on delivery – when the medium is transported under pressure,
  • on suction and delivery – when the hose operates under both conditions.

A hose intended for suction service must resist collapsing under vacuum. In delivery service, adequate pressure resistance is the most important factor. Therefore, selecting the diameter alone is not enough to choose the hose correctly.

What media are reinforced hoses used for?

The range of applications depends on the hose material, its construction and the operating parameters. Reinforced hoses are used, among other things, for:

  • water and wastewater
  • slurries and sediments
  • suspensions
  • media containing solid particles
  • abrasive materials
  • various industrial media
  • concrete, mortar and other hydraulically transported materials

When selecting a design, it is necessary to consider not only the type of medium, but also its temperature, concentration, abrasiveness and flow conditions.

Why is hose reinforcement important?

Reinforcement increases the hose’s resistance to pressure and vacuum and helps it retain its shape during operation.

Different reinforcement constructions are used depending on the design. The appropriate reinforcement is selected for the way the hose operates, the required resistance and the installation parameters.

The mere presence of reinforcement does not mean that every hose can operate at any pressure, vacuum or bend radius. These parameters must always be checked for the specific design.

Suction hose or delivery hose?

Suction hose

A suction hose is used on the suction side of a pump or in other parts of an installation where vacuum is present. Its construction must reduce the risk of the hose collapsing and ensure stable flow.

Delivery hose

A delivery hose operates under pressure. When selecting it, the most important factors include maximum working pressure, temperature and the type of transported medium.

Suction-delivery hose

A suction-delivery hose can operate both under vacuum and under pressure. It is used where the hose’s operating conditions change during operation of the installation.

Custom-length reinforced hoses

The hose should be matched to the specific installation. It can be manufactured to the required length and with the appropriate type of end, depending on the available design.

The enquiry should include:

  • type of medium
  • hose diameter
  • required working pressure
  • maximum vacuum
  • operating temperature
  • hose length
  • type of ends
  • routing and installation location

The more complete the data, the easier it is to select the correct material, reinforcement construction and hose-end design.

How do you select the right reinforced hose?

The most important thing is to match the hose to the actual operating conditions. First, determine:

  • Medium – what will flow through the hose and does it contain solid particles?
  • Operating mode – suction, delivery, or suction and delivery?
  • Pressure and vacuum – what are the maximum values during normal operation and transient states?
  • Temperature – what is the temperature of the medium and the ambient temperature?
  • Dimensions – what diameter and length does the installation require?
  • Ends – how should the hose be connected to the pipeline, pump or equipment?

What should you consider during installation?

Even a correctly selected hose can be damaged if it is installed incorrectly. Avoid excessive bending, twisting, exceeding the permissible bend radius and operating outside the parameters specified for the design.

The hose should also be protected against excessive mechanical loading and contact with components that could damage its surface.

A flexible hose may accommodate small displacements and reduce the transmission of vibrations, but it should not be treated as an arbitrary replacement for an expansion joint. The permissible range of movement depends on the construction, length and installation arrangement of the hose.

Frequently asked questions

Is a reinforced hose suitable for suction service?

Yes, but only a design intended to operate under vacuum. The appropriate reinforcement construction reduces the risk of the hose collapsing. The maximum vacuum must always be checked for the specific hose type.

Can the same hose operate on suction and delivery?

Yes, suction-delivery designs are available. However, not every hose is intended for both operating conditions, so its parameters must be checked before use.

Is a reinforced hose suitable for slurry and suspensions?

Such applications are possible, but they require the appropriate selection of material and construction. With media containing abrasive particles, resistance of the hose’s inner layer to wear is particularly important.

Can a hose be ordered in a specified length?

Yes. A hose can be prepared to the required length, provided that the length is within the range of the specific design.

How do you select a hose for a pump?

The key information includes the medium, connection diameter, pressure, vacuum, temperature, length and type of connection. On the suction side, selecting the hose for the vacuum value is particularly important.

A reinforced hose selected for your installation

Do not select a hose by diameter alone. The same DN may be available in designs intended for different media and different operating conditions.

Provide the medium, DN, pressure, vacuum, temperature, length and type of ends. On this basis, a design suitable for the specific installation can be selected.
